Ten on Tuesday: All About Pasta
1. Red Sauce or White Sauce?
White, but many of the cream sauces mess with my stomach unless they are literally freshly homemade. So I eat plenty of red or butter sauces, too, and I LOVE them.
2. Do you prefer pasta you can twirl or stab?
I like twirls, but I'm really pretty equal opportunity on my pasta. My husband uses the term "evil pasta" for those which you can't twirl and don't often stay on your fork easily. He hates penne, for example.
3. Baked or boiled?
Boiled.
4. Do you like meat in your sauce or do you kick it vegetarian style?
It depends. I always hated my mom's "meat sauce" spaghetti as a kid, but I love some meal that includes meat - I just don't like it to be equal parts meat and sauce.
5. Where have you had your very best pasta ever?
Ooh, boy, that's a tough one. I have no idea. My husband makes this stuff we call "O"-fredo sauce (because it's like having a little orgasm in my mouth!) so maybe here at home?
6. What is your favorite pasta dish?
I love a good seafood pasta in a lemon butter sauce.
7. Do you serve meatballs when you make spaghetti or just do a meat sauce?
I don't do meat sauce. We either do meatballs or italian sausage.
8. Why type (rice, whole wheat, egg, etc) of noodles do you use?
I love spinach noodles and egg noodles, but more often than not, we use whatever is cheap and on sale or BOGO, so it's pretty standard white flour pasta.
9. What type of meats or vegetables do you put in your sauce?
I love mushrooms in pasta sauce. We do a lot of sea food and Italian sausage in our pastas. I also make an aribiatta sauce with lots of peppers and mushrooms and onion, too which is great!
10. Do you make a “Sunday gravy” to use throughout the week or do you just open a jar of whatever and heat it up? (No judgment on this one!)
I don't make Sunday gravy, but I nearly always doctor a jar of sauce to make our regular dinner sauces. I only use it straight out of the jar if I'm microwaving it to put on some lunchtime noodles or something.

the 4th and the 10
We had a wonderful long weekend with Daddy Fuss arriving home on Friday afternoon. The Little Man couldn't stop smiling that first afternoon. It was so cute!
We spent time together on Saturday and Sunday - not doing anything special, per se, but just being together as a family. It was easy and low-key and mostly relaxing. (The non-relaxing parts involved the Fuss being temperamental, dramatic, arguementative and obnoxious. In other words, Being Three.)
We spent the evening of the Fourth at my oldest friend, Cherry's parents' beach condo. Good food, good friends, and brilliant, gorgeous fireworks on the beach.
And here's the T on T questions...

1. What do you traditionally do for 4th of July?
When I was a little kid, we would go with my best friend's family to their beach club and watch the fireworks on the beach. As an older kid, my dad and I would buy the kits at the grocery store and we'd light off the legal ones in the street.
The last several years, we've gone to Cherry's parents' place and watched the fireworks on St Pete Beach. You can see a bunch of shows from that vantage point and it is always a good time.
2. Did you follow your tradition this year? How did you celebrate yesterday?
As I mentioned above, we went there again this year and the kids had fun. Little Man just stared and stared at the pretty lights until about 5 minutes before the end, when the overstimulation and way-past-bedtime-ness hit him. He burried his head in my shoulder and was SO over it.
3. What’s the best fireworks show you’ve ever seen?
Last night's was pretty spectacular. The show got rained out last year, so I think they might have saved up.
4. Have you ever been injured by a firecracker?
No.
5. Burger, Brat, or Hot Dog?
Burgers if I have a choice. I'm not a big fan of brats, so I'd take a hot dog if that's all that is offered. Yesterday we were treated to ribs, though and they were amazing!
6. Do you sport red, white and blue on our Independence Day?
I usually do something akin to that. Often, I sport blue and white (I don't have a lot of red) and claim my hair is red enough to count as my red. I did have the kids decked out in Red, white and blue, though.
7. If you had to be from any country other than the USA, what country would it be?
I'm not sure how to answer that question. I've only been to Canada and I liked it, but I know it would be too cold for me year round, so I don't know if I could live there all the time or not. Maybe England?
8. Charcoal or gas?
Don't care. We have a gas grill and I love it.
9. What’s your favorite thing about this fair country of ours?
Hmmm, I don't know. I love our country, but I'm a little frustrated with some things right now, so nothing is coming to mind. I know there is a lot of good in our country, though!
10. God Bless the USA, My Country Tis of Thee, or the Star Spangled Banner?
I love a well-done version of God Bless the USA. But I also like the other ones, too.

1. What’s the recipe for your favorite drink? (Smoothie, alchoholic, coffee, whatever.)
Espresso Martini
Equal parts Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka and Vanilla Vodka and half as much Kahlua. Serve chilled. Add espresso beans and or chocolate drizzle to garnish
2. What kind of razor do you use?

3. Who is your favorite Sesame Street character?
It was Grover growing up, but I don't know if he still is (was he as weird back then as he is now?) I like Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby
4. What makes the perfect salad? (Lettuce type, toppings, dressing, etc.)
Spinach and romaine lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, celery, cheese, Italian dressing
5. What was your favorite subject in school?
English and American History.
6. What’s your favorite summer tradition?
My birthday!
7. Do you suffer from season allergies? How do you combat them?
Not really.
8. How often do you have to charge your cell phone?
Every other day or so.
9. Do you have a bucket list?
Not really. Most of the things that I would put on my list, I know I'll never have the opportunity to do!
10. Do you have any desire to go back to school?
I kinda hated school. I loved the social aspects of having people to talk to and I like to learn, but I hate taking tests and even when I was in art school and it was more about projects, I could never get things to come out the way I wanted them to... it was really frustrating. I would probably need to go back to school to have any sort of career in the future, but if I could skip it and get a good job without it? I would.

10 on Tuesday
1. How do you pronounce the word aunt? Does your pronunciation rhyme with ‘haunt’ or ‘can’t'?
When I say it by itself, I typically say it as rhyming with "haunt", but if paired with a name - especially when talking to my daughter about her "Aunts", it comes out closer to "can't". I had an English teacher in school who used to insist that "ants" are little bugs that run around on the ground.
2. Do most of the people in your life know you blog? Or are you partially or totally anonymous?
I'm mostly anonymous.
3. When you grocery shop, do you prefer to bag your own groceries or do you like it when the store bags them for you? Paper, plastic, or reusable bags?
I prefer them to bag, traditionally use plastic bags, but I'd use reusable if A) I had enough reuseable bags to make it work, B) I remembered to bring my reusable bags, C) My husband would let me buy some reusable bags to use. I have a handful, all given as gifts by my mom or as promos from some store or another. But not nearly enough to do my grocery shopping.
4. Do you have a green thumb?
When I remember to work on my plants, they do very well. That tends so come in phases. I've had some amazing success with Dahlia bulbs that I once had a master gardener tell me I wouldn't be able to grow in this FL heat. (ha!) These gorgeous, crimson bulbs lasted all spring and most of the summer because I watered them daily. But with this heat, if you forget 1-2 days, your flowers are done for.
5. If you watch the Food Network, which chef/show host is your favorite?
I rarely watch FN. And right now, the only shows I can think of are Rachael Ray and Paula Dean, not so much because I watch them, but because they are well-known.
6. Do you like to take baths? Do you take them very often?
Sometimes I'm in a mood for a bath. I don't get one often. There being only one bathroom in our house really prevents anyone from hogging it long-term and expecting any privacy. And if I'm taking a bath, I want it to be relaxing.
7. What color are the walls in your kitchen?
Pale ice blue.
8. Do you prefer to dine outdoors or indoors?
INDOORS. God allowed man to invent air conditioning for a reason.
9. Describe your ideal weather.
High of 75 and sunny. We get maybe a week of that per year here.
10. If you could learn any foreign language, which would you choose to learn?
Italian maybe? Just for fun. Spanish for practicality. Of course, there's a debate around here about whether Spanish should be considered a "foreign" language, since there is a large Spanish-speaking community in the state of FL. :)

10 on Tuesday - Cell phones
1. What type of phone do you have? Do you like it?
I have an LG something. It's nice, but not overly fancy. I just like that it has a QWERTY keyboard.
2. How old were you when you got your first cell phone?
19 or so - when I started driving. I got into an accident shortly after I started driving and happened to still have my mom's phone in my purse from the night before when I'd gone out late in the evening. My mom bought me a cell phone a few days later.
3. How many cell phones have you owned since your first?
maybe 8?
4. How much is your average monthly phone bill?
I have no idea. Bad, I know, but my husband pays that bill.
5. When you were a kid/teenager, were you allowed to have a phone in your room?
Nope. I begged and pleaded.
6. Do you like talking on the phone or do you despise it? Or somewhere in-between?
Love it, although less now than I did as a teen.
7. Do you text a lot? Is texting/talking while driving illegal where you live? Are you guilty of it anyway?
I text a lot. It's not illegal where I live and I talk while driving a lot and have for years. I try not to text while actively driving - keep to stop lights, etc.
8. What sort of texting keyboard does your phone have? Touch screen, slide out, or something different? Do you care?
Slide out. Also touch screen, but if it's any length of a message, I use the slide out. A yes or no or 2-3 word answer can be done via touch.
9. Look at the last call in your call log – who is it? What were they calling about? Who calls you the most?
My best friend K. She called back after the Little Man had called her when playing with my phone. My husband calls me the most. Followed by my mom and then my best friend, K.
10. What is the longest phone call you can recall having?
3+ hours with my childhood best friend Katie B.

10 on Tuesday on Wednesday (again)
1. From your childhood, what do you miss most about summer vacation?
Vacations. My mom and I (and my grandparents, usually) always went on a trip of some sort for a week or more. We can't afford to do that right now, but I loved it.
2. Are you going anywhere on vacation this summer?
Nope. we were going to go visit family in AL, but now we can't afford to go (gas is SO expensive and we just spent all our savings on the darn car)
3. What foods do you like to barbecue?
Well, I used to hate to BBQ, but I've found some other styles of BBQ sauce that I enjoy (I can't stand standard KC-style BBQ sauce - too sweet). We BBQ ribs and chicken.
4. How do you celebrate the fourth of July?
The last few years have involved a party at my friend Cherry's parents beach condo and then a trip outside to watch the fireworks on the beach.
5. What’s your favorite beverage to drink in the summertime?
Lemonade. And margaritas. (but I like those year round)
6. What movie are you looking forward to seeing this summer?
Something Borrowed? I dunno. I haven't been paying attention to what is coming out.
7. In the car: windows down or AC?
AC. I get headaches from the constant road noise.

Nope.
9. Do you wear sunscreen?
I am a pale, freckled red-head. If I don't wear sunscreen, I become a walking lobster. I don't tan.

Swimming.

10 On Tuesday (on Wednesday)
1. Have you ever used Craigslist?
I've sold stuff on Craigslist and I've advertised for garage sales on there, and I've shopped, but not actually bought anything from someone on craigslist.
2. Can you sew?
I can sew a straight line. I'm completely self-taught. I took one lesson from a friend who is such an amazing and creative seamstress/designer that she designed and made her best friend's wedding dress recently. She taught me how to follow a pattern and I almost finished a dress for Fuss when she was much tinier. But we never got to how to put in the zipper and I didn't finish it.
3. Do you pour syrup on your pancakes or dip your pancakes in the syrup?
Both. I do a little drizzle and then a puddle and dip. I don't want to get it too soggy, but I want it to soak up some of the flavor. But I really only like IHOP pancakes, so I don't do it very often.
4. Rain storms: Love them or hate them?
I like them as long as I am safely in the house, hopefully curled up with a blanket and a good book.
5. Do you like swimming?
In small doses. I like to swim, but I'm not a terribly strong swimmer. I loved being in the water the summer I was pregnant with the Little Man. Was the only time I didn't feel heavy.
6. What kind of drink do you order at Sonic?
All of the ones around me have closed, so I don't get to order from them much, but I liked the watermelon slush.
7. Are you funny?
Sometimes. My husband thinks I am and he is one of the wittiest, funniest people I know, so there has to be something to that opinion.
8. At what age will your kids get cell phones?
My current theory is when they start driving. That's when/why I got my first cell phone (not that it was an option before then, really) and I think that makes sense.
9. What’s your favorite vegetable?
Broccoli.
10. Were you a Girl Scout?
Nope. My mom was a troop leader before I was born and I wanted to be a Brownie/Girl Scout when I got to that age and my neighbor friend joined Brownies. But it didn't work out. My mom put me in the church group we had that was sort of similar - Pioneer Girls.

10 on Tuesday, x2
Last week's 10 on Tuesday that I never answered
And below are this week's questions.
1. What is the weather like in your city today?
Warm, but some breeze. We got some rain at the end of the week that cooled things off a bit instead of being miserable and muggy.
2. Do you like the zoo?
It's okay. I love seeing Fuss's reaction to the animals. But she always wants to pet them, which... can be a challenge to explain why she can't pet the pretty tiger/monkey/elephant.
3. Do you eat coconut?
Baked in stuff, sure. It's been at least 2 decades since I ate sweetened coconut by itself out of a can and probably nearly that since I had the opportunity to eat it out of the shell.
4. Have you ever hammered a nail? Are you good at it?
Yes and yes. Usually. My dad worked construction when I was a kid, so I've grown up around tools.
5. Does your family have a vacation destination that you visit often?
As a kid, yes - we spent time in the North Carolina mountains every summer and seriously miss that - I miss having one specific place to take my own family for vacations. But my husband and I have done several weekends in St Augustine since we got married and we spend a lot of time in Orlando.
6. How many pillows do you sleep with?
One.
7. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Feed the Little Man. Usually because he's the one waking me. If that is already taken care of, I go to the bathroom and put drops in my eyes.
8. Will you send your kids to summer camp?
I dunno. I had a couple of experiences going to camp and it was okay. But nothing so earth-moving that I desperately want my kids to repeat it. If they want to go, they can go.
9. What do you put in your baked potatoes?
If I'm eating a potato on it's own (like not as a side dish) I prefer cottage cheese and salsa or broccoli and melted cheese. If it's a side dish, I do butter and salt.
10. Did you take swimming lessons as a kid?
Yes. Some elderly neighbors who were the only ones (at the time) on our street who had a pool and so they opened up their pool to us on Saturday mornings every weekend in the summer and had a teacher come and teach all the neighborhood kids. (The parents paid for the teacher, but the pool was free.) It was great.
1. If you could watch only one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Hmmmm. That would be hard. Right now, I'd say the movies I can watch over and over again are Love, Actually and The Notebook (though I haven't seen that one in awhile. I might have to pull it out again this week.)
2. Let’s say someone wrote a screenplay about you; what actor/actress would you choose to play you and why?
If we're going for looks, than I'd say Bryce Dallas Howard. (when we were both much younger, I actually got mistaken for her at Universal Studios theme park. Seems she had been there with her dad a few days prior and the shop employees kept calling me Bryce)
If we're talking favorite actress because of talent, etc. I'd say right now my faves in my age bracket are Anne Hathaway and Rachel McAdams. (But my all-time favorite actress is still Julia Roberts. But she's quite a bit older than me, so I don't think she could play me if a story of my life.)
3. What’s the first movie you remember seeing in theaters?
I know it wasn't the first one, but the first one in my memory is An American Tail.
4. Did you ever make out at the back of a movie theater in middle school/high school?
No. Really? Who does that?
5. Are you a Netflix-er, Blockbuster-er or a Redbox-er? (Or none of the above?)
Netflix, but mostly for the streaming feature through the Wii.
6. Name one actor/actress who you would give anything to have a dinner date with.
Like a date as in romantic-like? Hmmm. Can I say Sean Connery and not seem weird? Because he's a thousand years old and still sexy.
7. What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen?
Pitch Black
8. Do you sneak snacks into the theater when you go?
I used to. And considering that money is tight again, I may have to again if we ever go back to the movies. But I usually want a drink the most, followed by nachos, instead of candy, so those are much harder to sneak in. When/if I take Fuss to the movies, I'll probably sneak in some snacks.
9. Movie theater popcorn: love or hate it?

Animated? Beauty and the Beast.

1. What is the weather like in your city today?
Warm, but some breeze. We got some rain at the end of the week that cooled things off a bit instead of being miserable and muggy.
2. Do you like the zoo?
It's okay. I love seeing Fuss's reaction to the animals. But she always wants to pet them, which... can be a challenge to explain why she can't pet the pretty tiger/monkey/elephant.
3. Do you eat coconut?
Baked in stuff, sure. It's been at least 2 decades since I ate sweetened coconut by itself out of a can and probably nearly that since I had the opportunity to eat it out of the shell.
4. Have you ever hammered a nail? Are you good at it?
Yes and yes. Usually. My dad worked construction when I was a kid, so I've grown up around tools.
5. Does your family have a vacation destination that you visit often?
As a kid, yes - we spent time in the North Carolina mountains every summer and seriously miss that - I miss having one specific place to take my own family for vacations. But my husband and I have done several weekends in St Augustine since we got married and we spend a lot of time in Orlando.
6. How many pillows do you sleep with?
One.
7. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Feed the Little Man. Usually because he's the one waking me. If that is already taken care of, I go to the bathroom and put drops in my eyes.
8. Will you send your kids to summer camp?
I dunno. I had a couple of experiences going to camp and it was okay. But nothing so earth-moving that I desperately want my kids to repeat it. If they want to go, they can go.
9. What do you put in your baked potatoes?
If I'm eating a potato on it's own (like not as a side dish) I prefer cottage cheese and salsa or broccoli and melted cheese. If it's a side dish, I do butter and salt.
10. Did you take swimming lessons as a kid?
Yes. Some elderly neighbors who were the only ones (at the time) on our street who had a pool and so they opened up their pool to us on Saturday mornings every weekend in the summer and had a teacher come and teach all the neighborhood kids. (The parents paid for the teacher, but the pool was free.) It was great.
1. If you could watch only one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Hmmmm. That would be hard. Right now, I'd say the movies I can watch over and over again are Love, Actually and The Notebook (though I haven't seen that one in awhile. I might have to pull it out again this week.)
2. Let’s say someone wrote a screenplay about you; what actor/actress would you choose to play you and why?
If we're going for looks, than I'd say Bryce Dallas Howard. (when we were both much younger, I actually got mistaken for her at Universal Studios theme park. Seems she had been there with her dad a few days prior and the shop employees kept calling me Bryce)
If we're talking favorite actress because of talent, etc. I'd say right now my faves in my age bracket are Anne Hathaway and Rachel McAdams. (But my all-time favorite actress is still Julia Roberts. But she's quite a bit older than me, so I don't think she could play me if a story of my life.)
3. What’s the first movie you remember seeing in theaters?
I know it wasn't the first one, but the first one in my memory is An American Tail.
4. Did you ever make out at the back of a movie theater in middle school/high school?
No. Really? Who does that?
5. Are you a Netflix-er, Blockbuster-er or a Redbox-er? (Or none of the above?)
Netflix, but mostly for the streaming feature through the Wii.
6. Name one actor/actress who you would give anything to have a dinner date with.
Like a date as in romantic-like? Hmmm. Can I say Sean Connery and not seem weird? Because he's a thousand years old and still sexy.
7. What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen?
Pitch Black
8. Do you sneak snacks into the theater when you go?
I used to. And considering that money is tight again, I may have to again if we ever go back to the movies. But I usually want a drink the most, followed by nachos, instead of candy, so those are much harder to sneak in. When/if I take Fuss to the movies, I'll probably sneak in some snacks.

10 on Tuesday
1. How many blogs do you read every day and what are they? (I’m talking the ones you NEVER miss)
I read Mighty Maggie, Roots and Rings, Kendi Everyday that post 5 days a week. I check in on Jesabes, Something Different This Way Comes, Julia @Here Be Hippogriffs, and Mommy Words several times a week, but they don't usually post 5 days a week, so there isn't always something to read.
2. How many “best friends” do you have? Do you have different “besties” for different areas of your life?
When I was younger a had a School Best Friend, a church Best Friend and 2 best friends that didn't get distinctions. Now I have my best friend who is my husband, my best friend who I call my sister or sisterfriend and my best friend (who is really my 3rd best friend).
3. What’s your daily make up routine?
It varies depending on what I'm doing for the day and my mood. I wash my face in the shower and I put on make up ranging from eyeliner and clear lip gloss only to full-face foundation, eye shadow, lipstick, etc. If I'm hanging out at the house, I don't bother, but if I'm going out and hanging out with other adults, I do the full thing. If I'm running errands, it's somewhere in the middle.
4. What is your ideal girl’s night?
Nice dinner, great conversation, martini's and dessert.
5. Do you keep up with your nails/toenails or are they au natural?
I've been putting polish on both lately, though I'd gotten out of the habit of wearing fingernail polish until recently. I think my feet look odd without polish, so I usually keep polish on the toes.
6. What’s your best roommate story (assuming you had a roommate at some point in your life)?
Best? What do you mean, like wildest? Well....
7. What’s your “go to” outfit that you wear more than anything else?
At this point, jeans and a tank top. And I truly hate to admit that. To dress it up, that tank top is changed to a sleeveless blouse that is actually a maternity top that looks really great even when I'm not pregnant.
8. Do you have a beauty secret?
Not really. I have nice hair, but that has more to do with the fact that I'm a natural redhead and I have never ever put a chemical in my hair - no dye or perms or relaxers, etc. My hair is really healthy.
9. Did you read Seventeen magazine growing up?
A little. My mom thought it was stupid, so I didn't read a lot of it.
10. How did you learn to put on makeup?
Mostly from watching my mom, a couple of Mary Kay consultants and the department store make up counter people. Also, instinct.

- one of my first college roommates stole from me and got kicked out of school before the first of October. (she got kicked out for a myriad of things not just stealing from me) I had to start locking my wallet and phone cards in one of the bedrooms that belonged to other girls in the house we shared.
- Best like most fun would probably be the time almost all of us when skinny dipping 100 yards from the interstate.
- When my mom was more like my roommate than my mom, she used to have her boyfriends over and she was REALLY loud in the bedroom. Sometimes she knew I was home and sometimes she didn't. It was REALLY awkward.

10 on Tuesday: Book Love
1. When someone asks you for a book recommendation, what is your go-to book?
Well, it depends on who it is and what they're asking for, but if they are open to Christian fiction I go with either Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers or anything by Karen Kingsbury. I also adore everything by Nicholas Sparks.
2. Do you buy your books, or are you a library patron?
I buy a lot of books and now that I have my Kindle, I buy them on Kindle. I actually have a back-log on my Kindle right now, though, so I need to hold off on buying any more. I LOVE the concept of the library, but it is so hard for me to get there, browse, and then get back to return them. Fuss just isn't patient at the library. She won't settle down long enough to let me browse, so if I don't know exactly what I want to get, I don't bother.
3. E-readers, yay or nay?
Yay! I was given 2 physical books I really really wanted to read for Christmas - and I haven't read them yet. Ugh. I LOVE to read, but it's so much easier to cart the Kindle around than a regular book.
4. What was your favorite book as a child?
I have a lot of memories of reading books as a child. The first book I couldn't put down was Betsy's Little Star (which I can't find on Amazon. I could have sworn it was by Beverly Cleary, but Amazon can't find it. The only book by that title is different from the one I remember...) I also read the book Jamie and the Mystery Quilt (also out of print) about 20 times. As a younger child, I loved The Little Engine that Could and My Goodnight Book (still a favorite. My mom bought us a copy for Fuss)
I also loved Pollyanna and The Velveteen Rabbit. My mom used to read me those books and I loved them.
As a teen, my favorite books were The Christy Miller series by Robin Jones Gunn. (I couldn't find a listing for the whole series at once, so this is the first 3, though I preferred the stories more as they moved along to later years)
5. If you could be any character in a book, who would you be?
Hmmmm. I don't know. Anne Shirley, maybe? Love me some Anne of Green Gables!
6. What book would you love to see turned into a movie?
Possibly The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks.
7. What is your all-time favorite book?

10 on Tuesday
1. If you work, do you drive to work or take public transportation?
I don't have an outside the house job right now, but when I did I drove. The public transportation around here is really bad and so even though there were plenty of bus stops near my old office building, it would have taken me 2 hours or more to make my 30-minute drive to work every day.
2. How often do you get your haircut? Do you go to the same person every time?
I've never been great about getting my hair cut frequently, but I usually have some version of a longer-length haircut, so that makes sense. I had the same hair dresser from age 5 until a couple of years ago (28 maybe?) but I've jumped around a bit since then. I often go to my BFF's MIL because she's cheap, but if I want anything remotely complicated or requiring creativity, I go elsewhere.
3. Do you read the newspaper? If so, a hardcopy or the online version?
I used to read the hard copy, but not so much anymore.
4. What is the best book you have read this year?
Probably Juliet by Anne Fortier. Or one of the Tess Gerritsen books.
5. What is the best movie you have seen this year?
Well, I haven't been to the movies (like theaters) yet this calendar year, so the actual best movie I've watched was The Blindside, which I got for Christmas on DVD. And I've seen it 4 or 5 times since then. (I love that movie)
6. Do you tend to crave sweet or salty foods?
It depends on a lot of factors. But I have a weakness for marshmallows and chocolate.
7. Do you eat breakfast every day? If so, what do you have?
Nope. The closest thing I get to eating breakfast every day is drinking a Coke every morning. Sometimes I have breakfast, but more often than not, I end up skipping it or putting it off until later, which ends up being lunch time.
8. If you celebrate Easter, what Easter treat/candy are you most looking forward to?
Cadburry Cream Eggs!!!!!!
9. How late is “sleeping in” to you?
Lately? 8am.
10. Where are you going on your next vacation?
I think it's looking like we're spending a long weekend with my extended-family in-laws in Birmingham, AL this summer. Does that count?

10 on Tuesday: Foodie version
1. What is a food that you never thought you would try, but then tried and liked?
I could say a bunch of things, if we go back a number of years. Growing up, I was a very picky eater. It wasn't until my (now) husband started to cook for me regularly that I broke out of my chicken-and-pasta rut. Buffalo chicken, Asian food (sushi, Thai, even Chinese since my mom's version of Chinese food was that canned stuff that looked like mucus surrounding bean sprouts), escargot. Also BBQ. I found a version that I love (hello spicy Texas BBQ sauce!) and I'm now addicted to a good non-molasses-based BBQ sauce.
2. Do you subscribe to any foodie publications? If so, which ones?
Nope. I like food, but I'm not so into reading about food.
3. What ingredient do you find yourself reaching for the most when you cook?
Garlic powder or Garlic salt.
4. Are there any foods that you hated as a child, but then learned to like as an adult?
Vegetables in general. BBQ. All sorts of Asian food.
5. What do you like to eat that others may consider weird?
Black liccorice? So many people hate that taste. I LOVE it. Also really spicy food.
6. What is the weirdest ingredient you’ve ever cooked with?
I have no idea. I leave the creative and different stuff to my husband.
7. Do you have any major food allergies?
I have a major sensitivity to MSG and related products. And my daughter can't eat peanuts or peanut butter.
8. Is there an ingredient that you would like to cook with, but are intimidated to try?
I can't think of anything. Like I said, I usually leave the creative or unusual to my husband who is willing to try anything twice.
9. Do you bake?
Yes! I LOVE to bake. I wasn't a very good cook until I got married (my husband taught me to cook and to enjoy it.) - I was intimidated by meat, if you want to know the truth. But I have always loved to bake. Ever since my Easy Bake Oven days. One year for Christmas I made 15 different types of cookies from scratch (pre-kids, of course.)
10. If you could go on any “foodie” show to compete, which one would it be, and why?
No clue. I can't even think of any that I know the title for.

10 on Tuesday
Was just informed that today March 22, is Kids Eat Free at Chili's. I might have to convince my husband we need to go out...
1. What condiments are always, always in your fridge?
Ketchup (mostly because Fuss LOVES it) and mayo.
2. How do you like your steak cooked? Your burgers?
Steak - medium rare, burgers, medium to done. I don't like the burgers charred, but they shouldn't be pink. I accidentally ordered one medium rare once and... well, it was the last time I threw up while pregnant with Fuss!
3. What’s your favorite use for fresh tomatoes?
I slice 'em, sprinkle a little pepper and some salt on them and eat them for a side veggie w/ dinner. Yum.
4. What’s your go-to dinner when you haven’t planned anything in advance and you don’t feel like going out?
Appetizers from the fridge. I find a mish-mash of frozen appetizers and cook them up. But it's pretty darn rare that I don't feel like going out, it's more like when my HUSBAND doesn't feel like going out, or says we can't.
5. What’s your favorite snack food lately?
Cereal. Either Cap'n Crunch Peanut Butter or Granola w/ raisins.
6. What’s your favorite weekend breakfast to make at home?
I used to be all about the baked goods for breakfast - muffins, croissants, etc. But my husband got me hooked on HIS weekend breakfasts when I was pregnant with the Little Man and now one of my faves is his sausage gravy and biscuits. SOOOOOO yummy.
7. What’s your favorite thing to grill? How do you do it?
My husband is the grill master, but I love to eat grilled burgers, steaks and salmon. My favorite way to do the salmon is to soak it in a marinade - Lawry's makes a great one that is mesquite and lime flavor and then grill it with some herbed or cheesy potatoes.
8. What’s your favorite wine for under $10? If you’re not a wine person, what brand of beer is your favorite?
I like a nice blush wine any day and I can usually find them at the grocery store for about $6. My favorite is by Alice White called Red Lexia, but I've not been able to find it lately.
9. Give us your most delicious cocktail recipe.
A Cosmocello. (I stole the idea from a drink by the same name made at, Maccaroni Grill - I think.) Double shot of Limoncello, shot of vodka, over ice and then Cran-Raspberry juice. So delicious!

My husband is the grill master, but I love to eat grilled burgers, steaks and salmon. My favorite way to do the salmon is to soak it in a marinade - Lawry's makes a great one that is mesquite and lime flavor and then grill it with some herbed or cheesy potatoes.
8. What’s your favorite wine for under $10? If you’re not a wine person, what brand of beer is your favorite?
I like a nice blush wine any day and I can usually find them at the grocery store for about $6. My favorite is by Alice White called Red Lexia, but I've not been able to find it lately.
9. Give us your most delicious cocktail recipe.
A Cosmocello. (I stole the idea from a drink by the same name made at, Maccaroni Grill - I think.) Double shot of Limoncello, shot of vodka, over ice and then Cran-Raspberry juice. So delicious!
10. How do you like your eggs?
Benedict. Or at least over easy with cheese on them. Or in my husband's sausage gravy.

10 on Tuesday
1. What is your cleaning style like?
Um, I guess you could call it "disaster recovery" in most cases. I have yet to get a regular system of cleaning (I sorely need to) so I just react to the messes around me.
2. What is your favorite thing to add to an outfit to take it from casual to classy?
Jewelry. I add my nicest earrings and a nice necklace.
3. Do you like stormy weather?
I like rainy weather when I'm warm and inside my home and I can curl up with a good book. I HATE being out in the rain and I'm not a big fan of thunder in general.
4. What is your favorite cold treat on a hot day?
Either a Coke, some lemonade or an ice cream cone.
5. What is your favorite warm treat on a cold day?
A warm baked good or a caramel latte from Starbucks. I especially like when my husband makes his apple blob for a warm dessert.
6. Who is your favorite animated character?
Belle from Beauty and the Beast
7. What do you keep your jewelry in?
About half a dozen small jewelry boxes. I need help.

10 on... Wednesday
Because of traveling on Monday, I lost a day this week and completely forgot about 10 on Tues yesterday. And then when I saw that the theme for the week was names, I HAD to answer, so... here you go.
1. How did your parents decide on your name?
My mother wanted to name me after a book she read and loved (a specific one) and that WAS my childhood nickname. I don't know where she got the idea for the full name she chose (which is a slightly unusual take on a fairly common, traditional name that has her book title as the common nickname for both) but despite the fact that my mom spelled it out for the nurse who filled out my birth certificate, it got spelled incorrectly. (it was spelled as the traditional name) And then my dad approved it. So legally, my name is slightly different than the name I go by. Very confusing and complicated.
2. Do your initials (First, Middle, Last) spell out anything fun/funny?
My maiden initials spell out a syllable, but it's not a real word.
3. Did you take your middle name from childhood or did you take your maiden name as your middle name? (If unmarried, what do you plan to do?)
I moved my maiden name to my middle name and dropped my boring middle name so I have a name I love.
4. Are you or will you name your children thematically (ie. same first letter, all of same origin…)
No. Thus far, both of my children have the same initials (the same as their dad) but since the names we have picked out for our future children don't have that in common, and it wasn't really intentional....
5. Did you decide on baby names as a little girl? Did you stick to them or change your mind?
I had baby names picked out from a very young age, but they changed a lot. And I didn't even stick to the names that I loved when we got married or the one we had both loved when we discussed when we first began talking about having a baby. The only thing that didn't change was my husband's unwavering desire to have a son named after him.
6. Does your family have any names that have been passed down through generations?
My husband is the 2nd and my son is the 3rd. We also will likely use my dad's name and his dad's name (they have the same first name, but different middle names) if we have another son in the future.
7. Do you look at the meaning of the name or just the name itself?
I look at both. There were a few names that I really liked, but that had terrible meanings and that at least weighted me against them.
8. Do you name pets with human names (Sally, Henry) or with pet names (Fluffy, Mr. Bo Bo)?
Our dogs were named names we wouldn't use for a child, but that are, in fact character names from books or TV shows that we liked, so they aren't "cutesy" pet names.
9. Are there any names that you have an affinity or dislike for based on a childhood experience/someone you once knew?
I'm sure there are, but I can't think of any specific names right now. I actually always loved the name Fiona (based on the musical Brigadoon, actually) but my husband once took pictures of a little girl named Fiona (he used to work for a sports photographer) who was this HUGE, masculine creepy-looking little girl who looked like she was going to beat up every one and so he hated it and wouldn't consider it for our child. And then Burn Notice came on and now I think he might consider it as a possibility. But more likely for a dog. :)
10. What are some of your favorite names? Why?
I love the name Megan because I want to name a child Meg after Meg Ryan who I always thought was adorable. I love the name Allison because of the female lead in my favorite book (The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks) and because my husband's favorite teacher was named Alison and my favorite character on our favorite TV show (House) was Allison Cameron. Right now I also love the name Avonlea and I might have to push for that one if we have a 3rd daughter (our potential 2nd daughter's name is already locked, I think)

1. What are your thoughts on Valentine’s Day. Do you love it? Hate it?
I like Valentine's Day, but since it is also Daddy Fuss's birthday, we've made it less of a thing the last few years. I don't want him feeling jipped, so I try and focus on his birthday more than I focus on V-day.
2. What is your favorite romantic comedy?
Probably You've Got Mail. How can you resist a movie with the quote, "how about some coffee or, you know, drinks or dinner or a movie... for as long as we both shall live?"
3. Meg Ryan & John Mellencamp: what’s your first reaction?
No idea. Am I missing something?
4. All time favorite poem or quote?
I have a few favorite quotes including the one my blog title is based on, but I'll go with "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans."
5. What’s the longest amount of time you’ve gone without sleep? (like consecutive hours).
32 hours? But just once. I wouldn't want to do it again. I couldn't pull all-nighters in high school or college. 1) I didn't care enough about school work to do that and 2) I don't function on no sleep. So that one time was on our trip to the OBX when we decided it made more sense to drive all night while Fuss was sleeping. It was ROUGH.
6. What color ink do you prefer to use?
Blue, but these days if I can find a pen, I don't really care what color. In high school, my preferred color of choice was purple. Yes, I was that girlie.
7. Share with us a blog that you recently found and fell in love with (and link us!)
I think probably the last one that I fell in love with was Kendi Everyday, a fashion blog. Kendi is awesome.
8. If you could be on a reality TV show which one would you choose?
I used to think a lot about being on American Idol or America's Next Top Model because those are the only "reality" TV shows I have ever watched (and I only watched the first season of American Idol, after that I didn't really care) But I am too old for both of them now (and I never had the body or the drive for ANTM).
9. Mountains or Beach?
Mountains, but then, I could walk to the beach from where I live and I don't.
10. With the Oscars around the corner, what’s your pick for best picture?
I don't even know what's nominated... checking... Okay, the only one I've seen was Inception, which was cool, but not "Best Picture" quality, IMHO. I really wanted to see The Social Network, but I think it would be nice for Toy Story 3 to win.

1. Any vacations you are looking forward to this summer?
We MIGHT be going to AL for July 4th weekend to visit my husband's cousins. I like them a lot, so it should be enjoyable. But I'm not sure if we're really going or not. The only other travel plans I have are Thanksgiving related - we're planning to go to my SILs in NC and while we're there, I'm hoping to meet up w/ an internet friend who lives nearby, Z.
2. What is your favorite article of summer clothing (shoes are included)?
Ribbed tank tops.
3. What is your favorite summer drink (alcoholic or non)?
Limeade margaritas. Or just limeade.
4. Do you tan or burn?
Burn. I avoid sun as much as possible.
5. Any goals you are working toward this summer?
I'd like to lose some more weight and I'm hoping to continue to nurse my boy until his first birthday at the end of the summer.

Grilled stuff - like ribs or burgers with mustard potato salad and watermelon slices.

I have no idea. Something Beach Boys, I would assume.

10 on Tuesday
1. What’s your favorite kind of donut?
I have 2 - one is a Boston Cream. The other is a Cinnamon/Coffee roll. Depending on where I'm ordering it, determines which I choose. The Boston creams have to fresh or they aren't as good. But it's hard (not impossible, but hard) to screw up a coffee roll.
2. Do you use the snooze button?
Sometimes. Depends on the situation. But since I don't have to set the alarm very often these days, it's sort of a moot point.
3. Do you write in cursive, print, or a combination of the two?
Mostly print, with a few letters close to cursive. But neither are "school" correct. I have nice writing, but I'd flunk penmanship in school if I had to return to it. Much like I did back in the day...
4. Tell us a joke.
A guy walked into a bar. Ouch.
5. How many languages do you speak?
1 and I am conversational in ASL (American Sign Language)
6. Why did you start blogging?
1. to have an "online diary" of sorts to have a place to write my thoughts and feelings
2. Because I loved reading other peoples' blogs
7. Do you use bar soap or liquid body wash?
Liquid. BBW right now.
8. Do you buy bottled water?
Sometimes, but I am fine drinking most tap water. I buy bottles for convenience and so that I can chill them in the fridge because I prefer to have my water very cold.
9. What did you think of the Super Bowl Half Time Show?
It was AWFUL. I haven't seen many halftime shows in my life, but that was certainly the worst.
10. How do you feel about Steve Carell leaving The Office?
Since I don't watch the office and I can take or leave Steve Carell in any situation, I really don't care one bit.

Questions for Tuesday, February 1, 2011!
1. What is your favorite childhood memory?
I would guess it would be something to do with the vacations I took every summer to the NC mountains. Being a girl from very flat Florida, the mountains were so amazing to me... and my grandparents would rent this house (we called it a cabin, but it had all the comforts of home, with the exception of cable TV) and they and my mom and I would all go up... my grandparents' best friends also owned a summer house up there (nicer than our rental, but then, they lived there for 5 mos of the year or more) and we would get together with them... so much fun, so simple, and I wish I had some way to show my husband and my kids what those vacations were like.
2. What is your favorite quality about yourself?
I've been trying to figure this out lately. As a kid, it would have been something like "creativity" or "friendliness" all things I got called by my teachers in elementary school. But now, I don't think I'm that creative anymore and I'm not as friendly as I used to be (and sometimes, I think my friendliness comes across as desperation instead of being friendly...)
3. What is your favorite thing that your child does?
I love when Little Man starts to laugh. It's this low chuckle and it's adorable.
I love it when Fuss says something sweet and poignant. Like when I ask her "how'd you get to be so beautiful?" and she says "because God made me beautiful."
4. What is your favorite thing to do to relax?
Read.
5. What is your favorite restaurant? And what is your favorite thing on the menu?
My favorite restaurant changes with my moods (I love to eat out). I'd say right now, my favorite reastaurant is Ban Thai Thai and Sushi and my favorite thing is their "Screaming Orgasm" sushi roll. (I didn't make up that name - it's on the menu)
6. What is your favorite piece of jewelry (besides your wedding ring)?
I have a handful of pendants that I love, but I haven't figured out how to wear them together, so I always wear them separately. My favorites are the amethyst and peridot pendant that I got the day Fuss was born, the Past, Present, Future diamond pendant I got for my 25th birthday from my husband, and my sapphire pendant that I got the day Little Man was born.
7. What is your favorite night of the week M-TH? And why?
Tuesdays. Mostly because of what is on TV on Tuesdays (NCIS, White Collar) and that there isn't a lot of stress on Tuesdays. No softball games, no commitments, etc.
8. What is your favorite dessert?
Again, depends on my mood. But I'd say that the best thing is the apple blob (an apple crisp of sorts) that my husband makes me. Or in his newly found penchant for making cheesecakes... his raspberry cheesecake.
9. What is your favorite item in your make-up bag?
Favorite item for fun is my lipgloss - sheer and shimmery, with a hint of peach color. But my must-have item is my eye liner. Otherwise, my eyes tend to get lost...
10. What is your favorite smell?
Lately it is Lemongrass. I also love the smell of my husband's cologne (Obsession) and Little Man's baby soap (Johnson's Oatmeal and Vanilla).

10 on - whatever...
1. Do you decorate for Valentine’s day?
Nope. I still have a couple of Christmas things up. Plus, V-day is my husband's birthday, so we make a bigger deal out of that than a Hallmark holiday...
2. Does your desktop have a picture or computer graphic? Is it organized?
I currently have a pretty picture of tulips that came with my computer on my laptop. My husband managed to somehow "tack" a pic of Fuss up there, too. (I have no idea how). All my icons are in-line, but not organized in any real way.
3. Do you use a paper planner, electric planner or no planner at all?
I have a paper pocket calendar that used to be my brain. But I seem to have misplaced it since the baby arrived (all that transferring of diaper bags) and now I just use the calendar on my pantry door to remember dates, etc.
4. Do you change purses or bags often or stick with a good thing?
See my answer above. I currently have 3 diaper bags and a purse (but I only use the purse on the rare occasions that I am going somewhere without at least one of my children) I have a diaper bag that I prefer for carting both kids around for errands, a bag for longer-term both kids and a bag for just-the-baby. (Fuss get the around-town diaper bag when she goes off with the aunts or whatever)
5. What’s your favorite YouTube Video?
The literal interpretation of Total Eclipse of the Heart. I found this more than a year ago on Alexa's blog and it still makes me laugh. You can see it here.
6. Do you use Turbo Tax or a real person to pay your taxes?
My parents have used the same accountant for their taxes and the taxes for the business since 1985. My husband and I use him. I have NEVER done my own taxes and I know that makes me a slacker.
7. How many states have you set foot (or tire) in? Which ones?30-some odd. I know I'm going to forget some from my tour in 1998 (went on a choir tour to 25 states in 30 days).
In no particular order, FL, GA, NC, SC, IL, MI, Maine (can never remember the abbreviation for this one), VA, WV, PA, TN, TX, CO, OK, MA, CT, MD, NJ, DE, NY, KY, IN, WI, LA, MS, OH, IA, MO, MN, KS, NE, and I think AR. So it looks like about 32.
8. How many countries have you been in? Which ones?
2. US and Canada. Unfortunately, I haven't done much international travel - I don't even have a passport.
9. How many pillows are in your house? (Sleeping or decorative)
Lots. LOL. At least 17 if you count all the decorative ones.
10. How cold is too cold for flip flops?
I never wear flip flops, but I'd say if you have to wear socks, it is certainly too cold.

Lots. LOL. At least 17 if you count all the decorative ones.
10. How cold is too cold for flip flops?
I never wear flip flops, but I'd say if you have to wear socks, it is certainly too cold.
