What's my name, Mom?

I keep catching myself referring to the new baby as "the baby" - he has a name, and I like it, etc. but somehow, I still refer to him as "the baby" more often than not. Sometimes I call him "little boy" or "little man" but mostly he is "the baby." I know I called Fuss by her name a lot pre-birth, so I don't really know what my hang up is.

He's real to me - I don't think that is the problem. Although, even Fuss was in some way only an idea before she was actually born. (I think that's normal in some way for every mom, though). I'm very much looking forward to having him in my arms - more now than I was months ago... I can't wait to see him, to meet him, to get to know him...

I'm working on it now, I guess. I am making purposeful attempts to call him by his name. But it's weird that I'm having trouble doing that, you know?

  1. I actually say "the baby" a lot in reference to Meg (but only when I'm talking to someone else and she's not around), even though she's a toddler now. This is a fairly recent thing, though. Before she was born and when she was really little, I always called her by her name. I think I started it when she no longer seemed like a baby and that made me sad.

  3. Sunny, I'm sure you'll come up with the perfect name for your little man! You've still got plenty of time!

  4. I don't think I ever called either kid by their name before they were born. They were real to me, they just weren't PEOPLE yet. Or something. I didn't know what they looked like. So maybe I wasn't SURE about the name. I don't know. I don't think it's weird!

  5. I was like that with Spencer, but I call Henry by his name constantly (which I'm sure you've noticed). I think it's actually because I'm so scared that they were wrong and he'll end up a girl and so I'm insisting to him that he's a boy, damn it :) Also, it's been easier to get Spencer used to sharing his room with "Henry" rather than "baby".
