Busy, busy and emptying out!

It's 9:30 and I have already changed 3 diapers - 2 of them poopy, wiped one poopy bottom, and cleaned up a puddle of pee on the floor and 2 yogurt messes. It's going to be one of THOSE days.

I ignored my business responsibilities this weekend and didn't make any calls that I should have made. But you know, it happens. We had a very successful weekend - had a garage sale on Saturday and got rid of a ton of junk and made some money in the process. We then purged and emptied another section of the main room in the house - so now things around my desk are much more organized and clear. I know one part of the party order I just submitted is already on it's way! (a direct ship order) But that probably means that the rest of the order is coming along, too and I'm so excited to get it!!!

We had a few cool days recently, weather-wise. I actually had the opportunity to put the kids in a few of their warmer clothes and I broke out one of my long-sleeved tees for the garage sale the other day. It's fun to see the new stuff.

I got Fuss's new tights for ballet in the mail and the new Children's Place order I ordered for her - a couple of dancing themed shirts, some leggings, and a tutu-like skirt to wear over leggings. She looks ADORABLE in it. And she LOVES it, so score one for mom. The Little Man has a couple of hoodies that are keeping him warm and I got both of the items I had to have for their Halloween costumes this weekend, too. (Her new tights have an opening in the bottom so that they can be peeled back off her foot when she's not wearing her dancing shoes. Reminds me of the footless tights the more advanced students in my own ballet school wore - I was so jealous. I thought they were SO cool.) But I'm hoping that these are more comfortable for her - they seem like they are WAY better quality, so here's hoping they last longer.

I am loving the need to purge all the junk and unused items in my house. My husband is very supportive. I even sold a table that I had an emotional attachment to, but was really just taking up space in my home at the garage sale. It wasn't useful to me, and when someone made me a good offer, I took it. My husband was surprised, but pleased. I am just so over having all this stuff taking up space. I haven't purged all my knick knacks yet, but things are thinning out.

I also sold my Christmas wreath at the garage sale - which means I get to buy a new one!!! I'm sort of psyched about that!

Bodily fluids

I had no time to post yesterday. None. I JUST realized that I didn't write the memorial I was going to write for the member of my "family" who passed away on Monday.

I was peed on, pooped on, and puked on yesterday, and all during the hours my husband was at work. In between bodily functions, I worked on cleaning the house and readying it for Fuss's family birthday party last night. This is included a run to the grocery store to pick up her "pretty cake", as she had asked for a store-bought cake this year after drooling over the beautifully decorated cakes every week as we grocery shop. (Our local branch of the grocery store houses the district bakery, so the biggest and most talented bakers and cake decorators all work there.)

She really struggled with the potty training yesterday and I was SO tired of mopping up pee puddles, especially since I was trying to CLEAN the house. Little Man started having explosive diapers in reaction to the antibiotics he is on. When I first got him up, I discovered that his diaper was so full, it shot up the back of him, all through his onesie and all over both of us. There were more of those to come. He spit up all of his second breakfast all over me and my bed and if that wasn't enough, he had some projectile vomiting after his afternoon nap that ended up all over my bed. He then proceeded to spit up/throw up his entire portion of milk all over me, the floor and the chair I usually sit in (thus prompting a second bath for him, and 3rd change of clothes for myself). By this time, I was so stressed and panicked that the baby was ill and that things weren't going to get done around the house. As it was, my husband and my SIL had to help me finish getting the kids ready and getting the meal ready. I later had to change yet again when yet another explosive diaper occurred and leaked all over me.

It was, pardon the pun, a crappy day. And one I don't wish to repeat. We're spreading out his antibiotic now to hopefully decrease the chances of more vomit.

Day 12 - (Pictureless)

My outfit today succumbed to an attack of salsa - and this time it wasn't even the kids' fault. But no pictures. It wasn't a great one anyway - a t-shirt and jeans w/ my Birks - and this was by design. I spent the day cleaning some more and hanging out at Tires Plus getting my oil changed and my brakes done before our trip next week. (Ironically, both my Kindle and my cell phone died while I was there. I talked to my BFF for a bit - probably part of the reason my phone died - watched some Regis and Kelly and read an old issue of People magazine - the only magazine that wasn't car or fishing related while I was there. I also had to feed the baby.)

I'm actually sort of proud of myself. I realized it was oil change time and made all my own arrangements (for a babysitter for Fuss and made an appointment) w/ no prompting from my husband! Very proud. The house is coming along, too, but it's hard sometimes! I'm trying to leave some of the tasks for later because I know that Fuss or one of us adults will just come back and mess it up, but then I look around and see all this mess and get discouraged.

The other night I was making a packing list for our Disney trip next week. 2 nights, 2 days out of town (and Fuss's first time - at least in her memory - of staying in a hotel. And she is really particular about her sleeping sometimes) and 2 kids under 3... I asked my husband if he could think of anything I had forgotten. He said no, just the usual stuff, the obvious stuff and it's just like any other trip to Orlando... and I held up the legal pad I was making the list on - the full page of things I needed to bring with us for ourselves and the kids and he said, "right, so like I was saying, it's a completely different situation this time around..."

We've never taken little kids to Disney before. In the couple of dozen times I've been to Walt Disney World, I was either the kid myself, or the youngest in our group were teenagers who could at least somewhat fend for themselves. (Back when we were the leaders of our former church's Youth Group) or it was just us/all adults. And taking a newborn... oh, how much stuff you need for a newborn!

DINKs

There was a time not so long ago when I wouldn't have missed a sporting event that my husband was playing in for anything - no matter how insignificant the event (including a really pathetic softball league he played on for several mini-seasons) but now...

Some of the games start at 8:30 or 9:30 and they are a half hour away from home. Which means they are WAY too late for Fuss to be out at the ballpark running around like a crazy girl. We go to the 6:30 or 7:30 games (despite the fact that the 7:30 games still make it way past bedtime by the time we get home) but we just can't handle the later time slots. We'll be missing the game tonight, and I haven't been to one since the week before the baby was born. (there were a couple of weeks off due to the Labor Day holiday and a rain out last week)

It just made me think of all the ways our lives have changed since we had kids. There are plenty of obvious things, of course - more mouths to feed, little laundry to add to the pile, carseats, etc. But I think sometimes it's the little things that were so unexpected. And sometimes it's those things that I miss the most. Being able to just go out for ice cream if I feel like it at 9PM. Making overnight spontaneous gettaway plans.

I love having kids - I love being a mom. The good far outweighs the bad. But sometimes, I look back at my old life and there are things I miss about that, too.
